Recent Storms Did Not Need It, But, New Response Unit Ready

A couple of years ago a tornado struck the Sublette area causing severe damage to Woodhaven Camp Grounds.

One of the groups that responded to help organize efforts following the tornado was the Lee County Emergency Management. Director Kevin Lalley said they learned then they needed some kind of mobile command center.

Earlier this week Lalley was showing off the nearly completed new Critical Incident Response Unit. The trailer is equipped with multiple communications systems including 24 radios and 24 cell phones.

Lalley also pointed out the communication center in the trailer that allows them to continually monitor and communicate with first responders at the scene. Lalley admits that not everything is new, but, it is all operational.

While the center does have creature comforts, it is not designed for people to live in for long periods of time.

Lalley says the mobile command is ready now if called upon. The recent storms however did not require its use.

He said they will certainly use it outside of Lee County, because as Lalley puts it, they helped us so we certainly will help them.
