City of Oregon Updates Liquor License Procedures

Oregon City Council had liquor on the table at Tuesday's City Council meeting.

As an ongoing update to the Oregon Municode book of codes and laws for the city, the council updated their liquor licensing procedures.

Mayor Ken Williams put forth a resolution that would eliminate the maximum number of liquor licenses the city could legally hold, in favor of a council approval approach.

Mayor Williams stated this is what a lot of towns were doing in order to avoid litigation and shift the responsibility from one liquor commissioner to the whole city council.

The Mayor also explained it eliminates the legal issues of having unused liquor licenses being issued to a business that only meets minimum requirements.

Now, a new liquor license application will be issued following an evaluation by the liquor commissioner, chief of police, and a get a simple majority vote by City Council.
