Shortly after announcing his retirement from the position of Lee County Treasurer, John Fritts also endorsed his Deputy Treasurer Melissa Lawrence to take her place.

Recently, Dixon City Financial Director Paula Meyer tossed her hat into the ring. The one thing the two candidates agree on is the fact Lee County is looking at some troubling financial times ahead.

Lawrence said she would help to advise the county financial committee on the best ways to deal with the problems. For the past several years Lawrence has been the go to person when it comes to preparing the county budget.

Lawrence said she has the experience for the office and currently she does several jobs in the department.

Lawrence said the office will not skip a beat, but, she would implement some new technologies for the department. She said she wants to bring it up to the 21st century.

Lawrence will be holding a meet and greet Wednesday evening at the Dixon Elks Lodge. The get together will be held in the 1994 room from 5:30-7:30. The Republican Primary will be in March.
