Mayor Says Dixon Needs to Get Creative to Help Next Picture Show

Mike Glen and Margaret Tyne from the Next Picture Show came before the Dixon City Council last Monday night seeking to see what the council can do to help out.

What they were seeking help concerning was their liquor license. Their current license is a Class 1 which allows sale of wine and beer.

This is the same license that several of the businesses that allow gambling quickly grabbed up.

CEO of The Next Picture Show Mike Glen said this puts the organization into the same category as a for profit business. He said The Next Picture Show is unique because this is not something they offer to make money.

Organization Board member Margaret Tyne said the council needs to come up with some other classification for non-profits.

Mayor Li Arellano said the problem comes from the state when they made some changes after video gaming was allowed. He said the state has lumped non-profits in with for profit businesses.

The mayor said they will seek to get creative to help organizations such as The Next Picture Show.
