For 7 ½ years his infectious laugh and big smile was a big asset to his position as Director of the Lee County Council on Aging. The final day arrived and at the Dixon Senior Center many people gathered to say thanks and to wish Geoff Vanderlin a fond farewell.

Vanderlin said he was feeling a wide range of emotions including sadness. He said he was going to miss all the people he worked with, the regulars who came in and the visitors who they hoped to give a bit of friendship and companionship to.

Vanderlin admitted he also felt a bit scared. He said he was ending one chapter in his life and beginning a new one. However, the new chapter does not give any clues of what is ahead.

He said he will probably sit and relax for a few months and watch the river flow by. But, he quickly added that he will probably find something to do, maybe even a part-time job just to get some fun money.
