The National Wrestling Coaches Association has announced its annual scholastic coaching award winners for 2016-17.

Roseburg (Oregon) High School head coach Steven Lander has been named the NWCA Scholastic Coach of the Year while Dixon (Illinois) High School assistant coach Bill Eastman has been named NWCA Scholastic Assistant Coach of the Year.

Eastman has been a volunteer Wrestling Coach at Dixon High School for 50 years. This past season, Dixon High School made history by reaching the Illinois Dual Team Championships for the first time in school history. Dixon took third place in the Class 2A State Dual Team Tournament with the assistance of Eastman.

Dixon A.D. Jared Shaner says “Bill has been a volunteer Coach for the Dukes for 50 years and certainly deserves this tremendous honor.”

Lander and Eastman were chosen from the eight section winners, which come from each state’s respective coaches association.
