Newman Boys Basketball State Title Run Ends in Semifinals

In Boys Basketball, at the Class 1A State Semifinals in Peoria, the Annawan Braves picked up a 59-44 win over Sterling Newman on Friday afternoon at the Civic Center.

Annawan never trailed in contest and led 15-9 at the end of the first quarter. Newman tied the game at 16-16 but Annawan closed out the first half on a 10-2 run to take a 26-18 lead into halftime.

The Braves (31-3) were led by Owen Landwher who scored 19 points and had 6 rebounds. Brendon Shaw chipped in with 13 points while Ben Buresh had 12 for Annawan.

Devon House led Newman (28-5) with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Travis Williams added 11 point for the Comets.

Annawan will now take on Okawville in the State Championship game on Saturday afternoon at 1pm. Okawville defeated Goreville 48-33 in the other Semifinal game.

Sterling Newman will take on Goreville (23-12) for third place on Saturday morning at 11am. WSEY 95.7 and will have the game starting around 10:50am.
