At Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon on Monday, Rows of American flags waved in the breeze. There were also a large crowd gathered, some old men who remembered serving their country in their youth. The crowd also so had families with small children.
This was the annual Memorial Day Ceremony in Dixon. A time to remember and honor those who gave their all for the country.
The keynote speaker was Lt. Col. Cheryl Kulavic-Knope. She said these people fought for something bigger then themselves. We also owe them a debt that could never be repaid.
As Kulavic-Knope stated, we live in the land of the free and the home of the brave because these people showed bravery when it counted the most. These people, she said felt that freedom was worth fighting for and if necessary, worth dying for.
