Sterling to Seek Intergovernmental Agreement for Sterling and Rock Falls Fire Departments to Share Equipment

The Sterling and Rock Falls Fire Departments are two separate entities.  They have their own equipment and their own leadership.  However, both departments work hand in hand on calls in each other’s communities.

The Sterling City Council passed a resolution allowing the mayor to execute an intergovernmental between the two departments.  This would be for the departments to share each other’s equipment.  It was stated the departments would still own their equipment.

A few years ago, the two departments were practically one department.  They shared one fire chief between them.  That was dissolved a while ago.

It was asked if this intergovernmental agreement could lead to the two departments returning to a unified leadership. The council members said it would be up to them and the Rock Falls City Council.
