Starting on Wednesday evening and ending in the early morning hours of Thursday, a multi-jurisdictional pursuit began in Freeport.

Freeport Police suspected a stolen car was in their area.  When they located the vehicle and attempted to make a stop, the driver of the stolen vehicle fled the scene.  After a short pursuit, the chase was called off.  Later, a Jo Davies County Sheriff’s Deputy located the vehicle in question near Hanover.

Around 3:40 Thursday morning, the vehicle was located in Savanna.  When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect vehicle struck a Savanna Squad car.  A short time later, the first call of shots fired was received.  The pursuit from Savanna and Mt. Carroll Police, along with Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputies continued.  A second call of shots fired was received.

The suspect then crashed into a Mt. Carroll squad car.  Law Enforcement then made physical contact with the suspect and more shots were fired.  Multiple Officers from Mt. Carrol, Savanna and the Carroll County Deputies were injured.  All were taken to local hospitals for non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was airlifted to a hospital and listed in stable condition.  As is standard procedure, the Illinois State Police has taken over the investigation and this remains an on-going investigation
