What would Petunia Festival be without the midway, the rides and the food stands? It would not be nearly as much fun.
Every summer, dozens of people become vagabonds, moving from one town to the next. They set up the rides and then spend long days operating them for the kids of all ages.
When it is very hot, such as it has been in Dixon this past week, they keep on going. Many said they have gotten used to working in the heat.
For many of them, their day does not end until the small hours of the morning. In the food trucks, they do not get to bed until the place is cleaned and ready for the next day.
When the day is over, they go to the campers and trailers provided for them. Come Sunday night, they tear things down and it is off to their next event. Several have been doing this for multiple years.
