Every community seems to always be in need of additional parking.
The city of Oregon has a long-range goal of providing additional parking for the downtown area. City Manager Darin DeHaan said the city has gotten several requests from business owners to get more parking.
During the City Council meeting Tuesday evening, the council gave DeHaan permission commit to the purchase of a home that is for sale at 131 S. 3rd Street. The cost is $62,000 and the city would be using TIF Funds to pay for it.
The home would be eventually torn down so the parking could be added. It was reported that one occupant is currently still in the home. The city was told the person has found a new home and would be moving out in a week or two. DeHaan said he told the realtor there was no rush.
