Budget and taxes were talked about at the most recent Lee County Board meeting.
During the meeting, Finance Committee Chair Jim Schielein spoke of beginning the process for constructing the county budget. He wanted to invite all of the board members to the meetings so they could see what was happening.
Schielein was asked if anyone from the community showed up to the meetings. Schielein said there was not. The invitation then went out to the public to come and see the process.
Schielein said the first meetings are called the scary meetings. Now, the county is looking at a $1.5 million deficit. It was pointed out that is what the county had last year and they were able to work through it to reach the balanced budget.
They also spoke of the first installment of property tax payments. They said the county is slightly higher than expected.
