During the Dixon City Council meeting Monday evening, the city took a big step for the celebration of the country’s 250 anniversary in 2026. The Council agreed to an intergovernmental agreement with the Dixon Park District.
As described by Councilman Chris Bishop, the city is hoping to get a $22,000 Celebrate America Grant. The city has to match the grant with its own $22,000.
However, according to the rules, the funder cannot be the recipient of the grant. Because of this, the city would give to the park district the $22,000 for the grant. Once the grant is received, it would be used for marketing, said Bishop.
As written into the agreement, the Park District cannot spend any of the money until the grant money is received. If the grant were not received, the park district would give it back.
Some of the money is planned for a 30×60 foot flag to be hung from the pedestrian bridge at a cost of $4,500. Another feature are See Coast Binocular Viewers for the $10,600.
