On Tuesday evening, across the Sauk Valley, throughout the state and across the country was the National Night Out.

According to Dixon Police Officer, Lucas Kammerer, this is a time to help build partnerships between the community and the services in the city.  There were several booths from groups and businesses.

One of the special treats was the arrival and landing of an OSF Ambulance Helicopter on the Dixon Park District Facility grounds.  Kammerer said it is not every day a person gets a chance to get up close to one of those.

Those who came by could also be part of a touch a truck.  There were vehicles from the Fire Departments, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the military.

Kammerer said it is great to get to meet the public and let them see they are just normal people too.  He called public policing a very important part of the job.
