Many students in Dixon, who begin classes, next week, need items such as notebooks, pencils, glue sticks as well as backpacks to carry their supplies. All of the items needed can be an expensive task for many parents. This is where the program Tools for School comes in.
During this program, parents could come to the Dixon Elks Lodge Thursday to get the supplies they might need. Mandy Dallas is the coordinator of Tools for School. She said Thursday morning they had a rush of people coming in.
It was not possible to provide all of the supplies a student may need. The Tools for School provided the basics. This included such items as color pencils, crayons, glue sticks and notebooks.
Kids also got the chance to pick out a new backpack. The Motorcycle Club, the Vendettas continues to provide the backpacks. Dallas said they work non-stop from January to the day of the event getting what they can so the kids could start the year off right.
