On Saturday, August 9 just after 7:00pm, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single motorcycle accident with injuries at Illinois Route 251 and Chicago Road in rural Compton.

Investigating Deputies learned a Harley Davidson Motorcycle driven by 68-year-old Alan P. Klimas of North Aurora was traveling southbound on Route 251 with a group of motorcycles approaching the intersection with Chicago Road. The pavement was wet from a thunderstorm that had previously passed through the area.

The group was late in realizing that they needed to turn left to head east on Chicago Road. As a result, Alan Klimas laid his motorcycle down on the pavement and suffered major injuries. He was transported to OSF Saint Paul in Mendota where he was pronounced deceased.

The Compton Fire Department, Paw Paw Fire Department, and the LaSalle County Coroner’s Office assisted the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

The Lee County Sheriff says there have been three fatalities at this intersection within the last two months. On June 9th, an accident at this same location claimed the lives of 16-year-old Chasity J. Stavenhagen from Earlville, Illinois, and her passenger 20-year-old Kevin Kain of West Brooklyn.

On July 3rd, another accident occurred at this intersection resulting in 42-year-old Robert Park of Sycamore being transported to OSF Saint Paul in Mendota. He was later airlifted to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford for his injuries.
