The Dixon Petunia Festival is right around the corner. This includes youth being about and going into downtown establishments.
A month or so ago, the Dixon City Council passed an amendment putting restrictions on youth going into bars and the like. Tuesday afternoon, during a special meeting, the council met to amend the ordinance.
Mayor Glen Hughes said some felt the original ordinance was too broad. However, Mayor Hughes said he was not comfortable with the changes.
The ordinance spells out that youth could not go into a bar without a parent. They must also stay away from the bar area. They are also not allowed in any area where gaming is present.
If an event is held in a separate place in the establishment the youth is allowed in the separate area, however, they must be out by 9:00 PM. The ordinance change passed on a 3-2 vote.
