Many people like using the playgrounds at Dixon Parks. The most unique and used playground is the inclusive playground at John Dixon Park. This playground is designed so that special needs children could still enjoy playing on a playground.
Dixon Park District Executive Director Duane Long said he does not know if any other area park district has this type of playground. He did say the special flush merry go round is the first in Illinois.
During the Park District Board meeting Wednesday night, the members approved the installation of a fence around the inclusive playground at John Dixon Park. This began when two separate families expressed concerns. They had concerns of children wandering away from the playground. Long said this was a concern they had to listen to.
He further stated that the original cost of the fencing was $8,964. With the sponsor and doing the work in-house, the cost is now $1,500. The fence should be installed by next month.
