Ever since the end of the Petunia Festival, the road repairs and the barricades have returned to South Galena Avenue in Dixon. During the festival, IDOT stopped the work and opened the avenue for the festival. Mayor Glen Hughes wanted to publically thank IDOT for working with the city.
He said the work has started again. This brings with it the barricades and street closures. The Mayor said the city has also begun its road-resurfacing project for this year. He asks the residents to be patient.
The road repair project begins with sidewalk replacements and curb repairs. The city is investing $1.5 million into this year’s effort. Since 2018, the city has spent roughly $18 million on street repairs.
The city worked with IDOT in regards to opening up South Galena Avenue for the Petunia Festival. This allowed commuters to get around Dixon on the busy roadway. The work to improve South Galena Avenue should continue for the rest of the summer.
