Sterling Police Chief Alex Chavira announced to the Sterling City Council Monday night that he was retiring. He said his final day as chief would be September 20 and being chief was a great honor.
Chavira stated he did not feel choosing another Chief of the Sterling Police Department should be taken lightly. For this reason, Chavira said he began the planning for the succession process for the chief position in 2021.
He also said through mentorship and targeted leadership training; the next chief should come the ranks of the current staff.
