Sterling Man Arrested in Connection to a Shooting in Mount Prospect

On Thursday, July 31, members of the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office assisted Mount Prospect Police Department in locating and arresting 38-year-old Bashkim Rockwell of Sterling.  Rockwell was taken into custody in Sterling following an investigation into a firearm discharge that occurred on July 25 in Mount Prospect.  Rockwell was charged by Mount Prospect Police with:

Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm

Two Counts of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding Police

Fleeing and Eluding Police

Speeding 35 MPH or more Over the Limit

The charges stem from an incident during the early morning hours of July 25 when Mount Prospect officers responded to a report of shots fired at the McDonalds in Mount Prospect.  According to reports, a sedan pulled alongside a vehicle containing four juveniles in the drive-thru lane.

The sedan driver pointed a handgun out the window and the juveniles reported they heard what was thought to be gunshots.  A bullet strike was confirmed on the juvenile’s vehicle.

A pursuit of the suspects’ vehicle began, but Mount Prospect Police later terminated it.  Through further investigation, authorities identified Rockwell as the offender.

Rockwell was located and arrested in Sterling on Thursday, July 31 in Sterling by Whiteside County Sheriff’s Deputies.
