Every community seeks to create incentives to entice developers to come to their area and build something.
The developers Tarlton and Pignatelli LLC is proposing to build three separate modular duplex units on vacant land owned by the city. They requested the city to waive the permit fee of $1,471.00 to help with construction costs.
This created a deep discussion concerning this and the future. Building and Zoning Director Amanda Schmidt was against it. She called it a slippery slope where every other person would want the same thing. Some members of the council agreed.
Others felt that they should approve it and then set guidelines for the council to follow in the future. One of these being the size of the project.
City Attorney Tim Zollenger said many communities use this as a tool to bring in development. The council approved the request.
