When Dixon School Superintendent Margo Empen announced she would be retiring at the end of this school year, it started the machinery moving. The Dixon School Board met with and discussed the criteria for a superintendent with the Illinois Association of School Board Superintendent Search.
Recently, a representative from the group came before the board. One of the major points discussed was the requirement to live in the district. The question was raised if the board was willing to say no to a great candidate if they lived just outside the district.
President Linda Wegener said the main point would be the loyalty to the Dixon School District. Wegener said they did not want the Dixon School District to be a stepping-stone for someone to move to a bigger district in the suburbs. The matter of perception to the taxpayers was also brought up.
The representative said they currently have 30 candidates. They hope to have the list down to six by the October board meeting.
