It is that time of year when many organizations and the like begin their work to construct a budget.
During the Monday night Sauk Valley Community College Board of Trustees meeting, the trustees looked at the tentative budget for the school. This budget is based on a 3% increase in enrollment and this could go higher.
School President Dr. David Hellmich stated that they are supposed to get a third of their funding from the state. Unfortunately, over the past few years, the college has only gotten 10% from the state.
Hellmich wanted to express his gratitude to the citizens of the Sauk Valley. He stated their largest amount of funding comes from property taxes. He stated it might be a small share on your tax bill, however it adds up. As Hellmich put it, this makes the college not just a community college, but the communities college.
